Since 2024, the 90s Night has been a fixed part of the legendary Retro Festival in Lucerne. With Caught in the Act, Rednex, Haddaway and Snap!, four acts from the 1990s who produced global hits will take to the festival stage in the historic Zeugheersaal of the Hotel Schweizerhof Lucerne.
Caught in the Act
The British–Dutch boy band was founded in 1992 and achieved major success in German-speaking countries in the mid-1990s. Their breakthrough came with the single “Love Is Everywhere.” In total, the band sold over 20 million records. Albums such as …Of Love, Forever Friends and Vibe followed – featuring hits like “Don’t Walk Away” and “My Arms Keep Missing You.” After disbanding in 1998, they celebrated a successful comeback in 2015/16.
Rednex
The Swedish group mixed country elements with Eurodance and caused a sensation in 1994 with the global hit “Cotton Eye Joe.” Party classics such as “Wish You Were Here” and “The Spirit of the Hawk” followed, cementing their cult status. Despite numerous line-up changes, Rednex has remained a guarantee for exuberant party atmosphere and catchy earworms. Their unique blend of banjo sounds and dance beats made them an unmistakable phenomenon of the 90s.
Haddaway
Born in Trinidad & Tobago, singer Haddaway became a legend in 1993 with the global hit “What Is Love” – reaching number 1 in over a dozen countries. Songs such as “Life,” “I Miss You,” and “Rock My Heart” also thrilled audiences worldwide. His distinctive voice and driving Eurodance sound continue to make him a crowd favourite to this day.
Snap! feat. Penny Ford
The German dance formation SNAP! became one of the defining acts of the Eurodance era in the early 1990s. With singer Penny Ford, the group achieved worldwide success with hits such as “The Power” and “Rhythm Is a Dancer,” selling millions of records. Their sound combined hip-hop samples, catchy hooks and electronic beats. Penny Ford’s charismatic voice became a trademark and contributed significantly to SNAP!’s global success.
