Sustainability

The Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern offers its guests a unique view of Lake Lucerne and the imposing mountain backdrop. We therefore see it as our duty to ensure that our planet remains as wonderful as it is and are committed to sustainable hotel operations.

As part of our sustainability programme, we have obtained "ISO 14001" certification and have carried the "Swisstainable" - Level III label ever since.

On our steady path to becoming a sustainable hotel, we live this attitude every day and try to implement sustainability in everyday hotel life wherever possible.

Do you have any ideas on how we can further optimise or even showcase the topic of sustainability? Then we look forward to hearing from you at sales@schweizerhof-luzern.ch

Swisstainable

Nature touches us when we leave it untouched. Switzerland as a holiday destination stands for spectacular mountains, wild gorges and mystical forests; our nature has the power to energise us. We want to preserve this - for many generations to come.

We at the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern are proud to be part of the "Swisstainable" sustainability programme in Swiss tourism in Levels II and III. Swisstainable is intended to help guests find more orientation in the area of sustainable travel.

ReviewForest

Fighting climate change with a restaurant review: this is exactly what the German company ReviewForest has set out to do. Companies use this platform to plant their own review forest. We are also part of ReviewForest and for every review received via the link below, a tree will be planted in your name in a reforestation project. Rate us and help the environment!

Water for water

Sustainability is an important topic at the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern. In this context, we have been supporting the non-profit organisation "WATER FOR WATER" since 2012. More than 600 companies across Switzerland work together to promote the environmentally friendly consumption of tap water and integrate the concept of redistribution into everyday operations. WfW has established long-term partnerships in Zambia and Mozambique to support local projects for the sustainable improvement of water and sanitation.

    Responsible Hotels of Switzerland

In August 2023, the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern joined the "Responsible Hotels of Switzerland" association. We are proud to be the first five-star hotel in Central Switzerland to be part of this association.

The "Responsible Hotels of Switzerland" unites the leading companies in ecological and social sustainability. The hotels are independent, characterful establishments in beautiful locations and at the same time contribute to preserving the quality of the landscape for future generations. They are committed to preserving the local environment and culture, are part of the local community and offer their guests first-class service and amenities.

    ISO 14001

Every individual and every organisation is called upon to make a contribution to preserving nature and achieving climate targets. The international standard for the implementation of a corporate environmental management system (EMS) ISO 14001 offers companies a concrete tool for this.

With the help of this standard, the conditions for continuous improvement of an organisation's environmental performance can be created.

    SapoCycle

SapoCycle is a non-profit organisation that collects used soaps from hotels and turns them into life-saving products. The soaps are recycled by people with disabilities and then distributed to improve the hygienic conditions of families in need. Here at the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern, all soaps are also collected and passed on to SapoCycle.

    Reduce food waste

    Reduce food waste

Through meticulous planning, we try to minimise food waste as much as possible. The remaining organic waste is processed into biogas and utilised as an energy resource.

Bread waste is passed on to local farmers and used as animal feed. We use seal labels so that untouched food can be reused.

Jewellery boxes made from empty champagne bottles

Who would have thought that our used glass would also make such a good trap as a jewellery box? Over the past few months, numerous empty champagne bottles have been collected and passed on to the Lucerne-based design label Fidea Design. Based on the idea and design of Swiss product designer Rahel Mor, unique storage jars were created from the used glass, giving used materials a second life, for example for jewellery, dried fruit, spice mixes or general everyday objects.

The "pearl keepers" are available from the Fidea Design concept store at Hertensteinstrasse 20 in Lucerne. Alternatively, they can be ordered online:

    Love for regionality

    Love for regionality

Both the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern and the VILLA Schweizerhof do not use ready-made products, instead focussing on products from the region. Most of the herbs come from the VILLA's own garden, the freshwater fish from the surrounding waters and the meat and dairy products are sourced from local farmers.
