A whiff of Sicilia....with Gaetano Basiricò
Founded by Vinzia and Salvatore di Gaetano in 1985, the Firriato Trapani cellar is situated under the Sicilian sun. Located on the west coast of the island the wineries benefit from the Mediterranean climate. Over the years the family business has been developed and expanded successfully. Today it is one of the most renowned wineries in Sicily with more than 300 hectares of wine. Recently the Firriato hospitality group also hosts guests in luxury lodges in a intimate atmosphere. The guests may expect warm hospitality, aesthetics and culinary delights at the highest standard.
Since 2015 Gaetano Basiricò is the head chef at the wonderful Baglia Soria Resort with 11 rooms. The native Sicilian discovered his passion for cooking at the age of 14 when he helped out in the Trattoria of his uncle. Later he took over the restaurant himself. Other stations in his career were restaurants in the Lombardy region and in Switzerland (Restaurant Frohheim, Murten) before he returned to his homeland. His passion is dedicated to the Sicilian cuisine with influences from African Dishes.
True to his motto: "The trick to a good recipe is in being able to identify with the ingredients", he knows all his ingredients as well as their origin and is deeply rooted with his country. In his dishes he combines the traditional cuisine of the island with new exciting flavours.
Accompanied by the noble wines from the Firriato winery every creation of Gaetano Basiricò becomes an extraordinary experience. Gaetano Basiricò now brings the Sicilian cuisine and the highlights from the Firriato winery to Lucerne. On Friday, 24 March 2017 the opening event of the new guest chef serie takes place. Let yourself be carried away with extraordinary creations - accompanied by top wines - into the culinary world of Sicily. Afterwards, the Schweizerhof kitchen team takes over the recipes and spoils you with this different menu until 5 June 2017.
