As a lieutenant and head of the weather services, Karl Frey had to provide a weather prediction for an essential manoeuver of the Swiss army. This he had to do early in the morning from the top of the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern, from the little roof terrace. Almost accurate to a minute he was right with his forecast and was honoured with a large bottle of wine by his senior.
On the further places in the ranking of the competition is the couple Käch-Schaffhauser from Udligenswil. They met each other during Lucerne carnival at the Festivalhotel, fell in love and years later, they celebrated their wedding in the marvellous event locations of the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern. The third rate goes to the Lucerne citizen Peggy Dilks. She is our guest since the 1950ies and since a while; she is regularly coming back to us for holidays in her favourite hotel - just a few steps away from her own home.
Karl Frey wrote his story with an old typewriter. The winner is within a row of many world-famous people and will be the first guest who will stay in "his" room. Also, he is part of our history book, where all stories will be told.
Since January 2014, 49 rooms and suites are going to be renovated in a second stage. The rooms are telling stories, which our guests, personalities such as writers, musicians or actors experienced at the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern. We had more than enough stories to realize for the second part of the rooms. Leo Tolstoj, general Dufour and Gianna Nannini are just a few examples. But still, we were looking for a special story of a local and launched a competition last November and December to find it.
The only requirement was, that the story has to be completely trough and that the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern plays an important rule in it. Now the jury, the management of the hotel and the two Swiss musicians Seven and Philipp Fankhauser crowned Karl Freys story out of more than 60 transmittals. The two musicians also have a room at the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern.
